چکیده

The objective of this study is to investigate a high performance and lower cost compact gamma camera module for a multi-head small animal SPECT system. A compact camera module was developed using a thin Lutetium Oxyorthosilicate (LSO) scintillation crystal slice coupled to a Hamamatsu H8500 position sensitive photomultiplier tube (PSPMT). A two-stage charge division readout board based on a novel sub-tractive resistive readout with a truncated center-of-gravity (TCOG) positioning method was developed for the camera. The performance of the camera was evaluated using a flood 99mTc source with a four-quadrant barmask phantom. The preliminary experimental results show that the image shrinkage problem associated with the conventional resistive readout can be effectively overcome by the novel subtractive resistive readout with an appropriate fraction subtraction factor. The response output area (ROA) of the camera shown in the flood image was improved up to 34%, and an intrinsic spatial resolution better than 2 mm of detector was achieved. In conclusion, the utilization of a continuous scintillation crystal and a flat-panel PSPMT equipped with a novel subtractive resistive readout is a feasible approach for developing a high performance and lower cost compact gamma camera.

Comparative assessment of the accuracy of maximum likelihood and correlated signal enhancement algorithm positioning methods in gamma camera with large square photomultiplier tubes

Introduction: The gamma cameras, based on scintillation crystal followed by an array of photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), play a crucial role in nuclear medicine. The use of square PMTs provides the minimum dead zones in the camera. The camera with square PMTs also reduces the number of PMTs relative to the detection area. Introduction of a positioning algorithm to improve the spat...

Growth of CsI(Tl) crystals doped with Ca and Tm and investigation of its scintillation characteristics

In this work, the growth of CsI(Tl) crystals as gamma detector was performed using vertical Bridgman method with Ca and Tm co-dopants. For evaluation of the growth crystals, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence and thermoluminescence spectra as well as recorded gamma spectra were employed. In addition, the scintillation properties including energy resolution, scintillation decay time, abs...

New approach for calibration of pixelated scintillation detectors of intraoperative gamma cameras

Introduction:SURGEOSIGHT is a dedicated intra-operative hand-held gamma camera designed and manufactured by our team to be used for lymphoscintigraphy. Although conventional gamma cameras are widely used, they lack the capability of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) imaging in the operation room. Like conventional gamma cameras it is necessary to calibrate SURGEOSIGHT for linearity...

Investigation of a New Readout Scheme for High Resolution Scintillation Crystal Arrays Using Photodi - Nuclear Science, IEEE Transactions on

We are exploring the possibility of using PIN photodiodes to readout the scintillation crystals used in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) detector designs. Semiconductor photodetectors typically have a lower signal to noise ratio than photomultiplier tubes (PMTs). However, they have the advantage of compactness, and, thus, scintillation crystal readout schemes not available to PMTs because of ...
